Meet Alyssa
I grew up watching my mom, an artist and teacher, bring color and life to everything she touched. She passed that gift on to me, and somewhere along the way, watercolor stopped being just a lesson and became a love. It clicked in a way nothing else had. It felt like joy in its purest form. That love eventually earned me a full-ride scholarship, but more than any achievement, it gave me something I didn't know I needed — a place to breathe.
Because here's the truth: I struggle with perfectionism. I struggle with imposter syndrome. I struggle staying focused when there are 101 things pulling at my attention all day long. I've wanted to try so many creative things and talked myself out of every single one. Maybe you know that feeling too.
What painting taught me is that we all need a creative outlet — not as a luxury, but as a necessity. For me, watercolor is where I slow down, exhale, and reconnect with the beauty God has placed all around us. There's something sacred about picking up a brush and really seeing — noticing color, light, and the quiet wonder in everyday things. Art has a way of bringing you back to yourself.
As a mom, watercolor has become my go-to medium for practical reasons too. A professor once told me about a season of his life with babies at home, chaos everywhere — where watercolor became his saving grace. I didn't fully understand it then. I do now. I can open my palette, grab a fresh jar of water and my brushes, and just get to work. No solvents, no harmful chemicals, no mess that takes an hour to clean up. It's safe for little ones, easy to put away, and ready whenever I can steal a quiet moment. Watercolor is the cleanest, simplest medium there is, and that matters when real life doesn't slow down for your creativity.
Art with Alyssa was born from a simple wish: to share this feeling with you. Not just the technique, but the quiet pride of having a skill that's truly yours. The calm that washes over you mid-brushstroke. The surprise of watching something beautiful come to life in your own hands.
Whether you're picking up a brush for the very first time or rediscovering a creative side you set aside long ago, you're in the right place. My lessons were made for people like us.. the perfectionists, the busy moms, the dreamers who just need a little nudge.
Welcome. I'm so glad you're here.
